Open Question: Poll: Angie Miller getting
So. We're down to Candice Glover and Kree Harrison. Ridiculous. Let's start with Candice Glover. Candice Glover is a prime example of how you can be a great *TECHNICAL* singer, yet a complete *BORE* at the same time: 1. Her voice is not unique. (--Notice, I didn't say range, power or pitch...I'm talking *tone* here.) 2. She has no stage presence--she doesn't move, doesn't play to the audience...she just stands there. 3. She has zero star power: She doesn't have the charisma, the magnetism, or the wow-factor associated with an American Idol. 4. In short, she's not a complete performer. Yes, of course, she's able to razzle-dazzle with her vocal acrobatics. But be honest for just a moment. Just look at her and think *Pop Star*. Angie may not have been as adept at vocal gyrations including the "hoo-hoo"s and "wee-wee"s as Candice, but who cares??????? I thought this was American *Idol*. Not, "American R&B Recording Artist". (And before you make it about race, I was behind Burnell Taylor 100%. He HAD everything I listed above that Candice lacks.) Angie was the whole package: 1. Amazing, UNIQUE voice. When you heard her, you knew it was her. (Candice Glover's vocal tonality could pass for any one of a hundred other one-off R&B artists that have come and gone.) 2. Stage presence: whether she was working the crowd, or playing the piano. Which leads me to... 3. She HAS star power: She HAS the charisma, the magnetism, and the wow-factor associated with an American Idol. 4. Her musical talent with the piano is nothing short of enthralling. When she moves and pounds the keys with passion it's as exciting an instrumental, musical performance as any I've seen from other professionals with years more experience. 5. And yes, she's beautiful; she has the kind of beauty that is becoming an idol pop star. (And before you make it about race again, Rihanna also has the kind of beauty becoming a star. Candice Glover, clearly, doesn't. She could pass for any one of a dozen random girls in line at Dunkin Donuts.) 6. I saved this for last: Her SONGWRITING TALENT. "You Set Me Free" could easily have debuted at number one. It has nearly FOUR MILLION VIEWS on Youtube. Candice's most watched video has barely two. In short, Angie Miller is a complete artist. I hope her career doesn't face an uphill climb now by virtue of having not "won" a TV show. I think the judges swayed public opinion. They lavished praise on Amber Holcomb who clearly didn't deserve it, and they were overly critical of Angie, while giving Candice a free-ride on her lack of charisma and lack of completeness as a live performer. I think Candice will go up quick due to the hype, then quickly fade from public view, much like Jordin Sparks. Kree's great, but second to Angie. Hope she wins. At least her voice is also UNIQUE and has a sweetness to it that is endearing. At least she doesn't rely solely on vocal acrobatics. Agree or Disagree?

Resolved Question: American Idol Top 7: My
Sorry for the late review, I was extremely busy last night. I did manage to watch American Idol, and some moments once again left me disappointed. here's my rankings. 1. Amber Holcomb Once again, I have to give the top spot to Amber. Her vocal ability keeps getting better and better each week. I originally thought she was going to have trouble this week, but she did an amazing job. Her vocals were beautiful and powerful, she stayed on pitch, and she continued to rise to the top. At this rate, she might just make it to the finale. 2. Kree Harrison Unlike some of the contestants, Kree chose a song that allowed her to play to her strengths. Hands down, Kree has been the most consistent contestant of the season. Her voice is always just so beautiful, and her vocals were pitch perfect. She could definitely make it to the finale if she keeps going down this path. 3. Angie Miller Let me start off by saying I thought the theme was Classic Rock, yet Angie sang a song from 2003...whatever. Anyways, this was so much better than last week. Angie chose a song that was in her comfort zone, she had great stage presence, her vocals were spot on, and she's back to the Angie we all know and love. It wasn't perfect, but it was the biggest improvement of the night. 4. Candice Glover Candice did a great job last night, but I don't think it was as strong as her previous performances. I think she could've picked a better song. She did do a good job, don't get me wrong. She's been very consistent, her stage presence was great, and her vocals were great. However, it just didn't feel as strong to me. I know she can do better. 6. Burnell Taylor This wasn't that impressive to me. For starters, I think he missed his cue when the song began. Not only that, but this just felt like the wrong sing choice for him. He was like a fish out of water. I appreciate his effort in trying to sing in a Rock and Roll style, but it just wasn't him. It was a good performance, but not great. 6. 5. Janelle Arthur Once again, we see Janelle's problems with fast paced songs; pitch. This performance was sort of all over the place for me. Not only that, but her vocals weren't really that powerful. For two weeks she shined, and last night that light dimmed a little. There were parts that she was good, but there parts of the song that were off, and her ending? She sounded like she was shouting. 7. Lazaro Arbos He needs to go home. Plain and simple. First of all, I thought they said "no ballads"? We Are the Champions is clearly a rock power ballad. Second, for song that's supposed to be a "power" ballad, Lazaro's vocals were anything but powerful. He was once again pitchy, you could barely hear him over the melody, and he just fell flat. Now for the group performances. 1. Burnell and Candice By far the best group vocal of the night. Burnell and Candice's voices meshed together beautifully, they both had great stage presence, and they stayed on pitch. Neither one of them really outshined the other. In addition, to me, both Candice and Burnell did far better here than their solo performances. To me, Burnell is still going to be in the bottom three, but this performance will be what ultimately keeps him from going home. 2. Kree, Janelle, and Amber First of all, I am shocked they had kree and Janelle do another group performance together. Having said that, Kree didn't outshine Janelle here. Instead, they were both outshined by Amber. In my opinion, it seemed like Amber was the main vocalist and Janelle and Kree were backup singers. That's how it felt to me. Ultimately, it's why I thought Amber was better than Kree overall last night. 3. Angie and Lazaro I'm sorry, but half was great and the other half was a hot mess. Angie did a great job, and she's not at fault whatsoever for her group performance being ranked so low. Lazaro, on the other hand, is completely at fault. His voice seemed non-existent at times, he once again forgot the lyrics, and it was just like Kree and Janelle's group performance last week; it was like Angie flew in to do a duet with an Idol contestant. So there's my [late] ranking for the top 7 last night on American Idol. Do you agree or disagree? And as predictable as this may be, who do you think is going home?

Resolved Question: American Idol Top 8: Who
Tonight was a very interesting night. Here's my review of a night with outstanding ups and one very disappointing down. 1. Amber Holcomb Hands down, Amber had the best performance tonight. It was beautiful, it was the right song, it was powerful, it was on pitch, and she just had great stage presence. Amber did better than everyone, even Candice and Angie, and she just established herself as a front runner. After blowing everyone else out of the water, she better not be in the bottom three again. 2. Candice Glover Tonignt, Candice sang a song that has been sung on American Idol numerous times. However, hers is arguably the best version we've heard on the show. I'm honestly not sure what's left to say about her. As with her past performances she was powerful, she was comfortable on stage, she showed us something new, and she showed off her incredible vocal range. 3. Janelle Arthur After being outshined in her group performance, Janelle did absolutely amazing with her solo song. Her pitch was much better, it was soft, it was original, and it was just so beautiful to listen to. Hands down her best performance yet. Janelle was behind the rest of the girls. Tonight, she evened the playing field. Finally, a WGWG I can root for (White Girl With Guitar). 4. Kree Harrison I'm not sure if Kree has had a bad performance yet, cause she once again did a great job. She took a bit of a risk with her song choice, but she made it work in a very big way. She once again had a very good performance, stayed on pitch, she put her own spin on the song, and she once again showed off her amazing vocals. I love how she makes each of her performances unique. 5. Lazaro Arbos I think Lazaro's performance tonight can be summed up with one word: Redemption. After having the worst performance of the night last week, Lazaro chose a better song this week, and had a much better performance than last week. There were some pitch problems, but overall he did a great job. 6. Burnell Taylor Once again, Burnell does the best out of the guys. His pitch was great, his stage presence was great, he chose a great song that was also in his comfort zone, and he once again showed of his soft vocals. I do have onecritiquee though. When he said words like "Amor" and "adore", it sounded more like he said "Amorm" and "adorm". Because of that, I had to rank him a little lower. 7. Devin Velez Devin has been on a downhill trend as of late, choosing boring, sage songs. This week, he chose a better song. It allowed him to showcase his falsetto, which was good, but it still felt slightly on the average and boring side to me. I don't think of He hasn't really done anything that has that "wow" factor, and everyone else outshined him. Everyone, except one. 8. Angela Miller Angie, Angie, what the heck happened? Jimmy is taking the Angie we know and love and turning her into something that is just not her. Angie has so much talent and is amazing, but her pitch wasn't on key, it wasn't the right song choice, and she did the best she could with it but I think she just had her first performance that was actually, well, not very good. I really hope she's here next week, cause she can do so much better than that. And now for the group performances. 1. Amber, Candice, and Angela This was by far the best group performance of the night. These three lovely ladies have the three strongest voices in the competition right now, and the song they sang worked very well. Unlike Kree and Janelle's group song, they all shined together without any one of them outshining the other, and they all stayed on pitch. 2. Janelle and Kree The judges were right. Kree outshined Janelle tonight. They sounded great together, but Janelle seems to be pitchy moreso than on pitch, whereas Kree stays on pitch almost always and sounds beautiful. Kree continued moving forward, but after doing great last week Janelle took one step forward and two steps back. 3. Devin, Lazaro, and Burnell This was just an okay performance to me. It wasn't spectacular, Lazaro forgot the words, all three of them had pitch problems, and they just didn't mesh very well together. Nicki hit the nail on the head when she said it felt like it was a horrible group performance from Hollywood week. So overall, when considering both solo and group performances, this is how I rank the contestants tonight. 1. Amber 2. Candice 3. Kree 4. Janelle 5. Burnell 6. Angie 7. Lazaro 8. Devin Overall, I am praying for Angie to get a second chance. Hopefully, Devin will end up going home instead, cause Angie may have had the worst solo performance, but she was in the best group performance, whereas Devin had mediocre solo and group performances. There's my review for tonight. Do you agree or disagree? Who do you hope goes home this week?
