A Loss for Words
It is a singular fate to be the last of one’s kind. That is the fate of the men and women, nearly all of them elderly, who are—like Marie Wilcox, of California; Gyani Maiya Sen, of Nepal; Verdena Parker, of Oregon; and Charlie Mungulda, of Australia—the last known speakers of a language: Wukchumni, Kusunda, Hupa, and Amurdag, respectively. But a few years ago, in Chile, I met Joubert Yanten ...

Resolved Question: Tristes Tropiques by
I am Reading Tristes Tropiques by Claude Levi-Strauss for a 12 page paper due next Tuesday. Anyone read that? The book is 400+ pages long and it took the library a long time to ship it via inter-library-loan. How could I cut down the reading to make the book go by faster but still give me a good sense of what happened? (At the same time, I dont want to make it obvious in my paper that I barely did the reading). Thanks!

Resolved Question: Claude Levi-Strauss: how
I was given a text called "Le sorcier et sa magie" (The sorcerer and his magic) to read and analyse, but I can't quite understand what Strauss is trying to get to with all his explanations.. Does anyone know, based on Strauss' work, how he perceived magic and sorcerers?
Any help would be great! :)
