Resolved Question: Why does the world
The compilers of the 2010 list say the rise in the wealth of Britain's richest individuals is the largest since the list was first published 21 years ago.
Top ten of Sunday Times Rich List 2010 (last year's position, fortune and percentage change is in brackets):
1. Lakshmi Mittal and family, steel - £22.4 billion (1, £10.8 billion, up 108 per cent)
2. Roman Abramovich, oil and industry - £7.400 billion (2, 7 billion, up 6 per cent)
3. The Duke of Westminster, property - £6.7 billion (3, £6.500 billion, up 4 per cent)
4. Ernesto and Kirsty Bertarelli, pharmaceuticals - £5.9 billion (4, £5 billion, up 19 per cent)
5. David and Simon Reuben, property and Internet - £5,532 million (9=, £2.5 billion pounds, up 121 per cent)
6. Alisher Usmanov, steel and mines - £4.7 billion (18=, £1.5 billion, up 213 per cent)
7. Galen and George Weston, retailing - £4.5 billion (47 £900 million. Note: the wealth of the two sides of the Weston family has been merged in this year's list)
8. Charlene and Michel de Carvalho, inheritance, brewing and banking - £4.4 billion (7, £2.9 billion, up 49 per cent)
9. Sir Philip and Lady Green, retailing - £4.1 billion (6, £3.8 billion pounds, up 7 per cent)
10. Anil Agarwal, mining, £4.1 billion (70=, £600 million, up 583 per cent) The point is that right wing media harps on about recession and keeps urging the common man/woman to tighten his/her belt. In the meantime the fat cats keep getting fatter. There does not seem to be a control over how fat they can get either.
