Resolved Question: Who was the best as
It would seem that the version of "A Christmas Carol," from 1951 - starring Alastair Sim - is the best known. Somehow, the earlier (and very good) version, from 1938, starring Reginald Owen, is largely unknown and/or forgotten. "Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol" was the most animated version.

Resolved Question: Can you help me identify
This is probably going to be really hard because I can't remember much about the movie, but here goes.
I watched a movie several years ago about a young boy in his adolescence coping with the death of his Grandfather. The movie has to be within the last 13 years and if I were guessing I would say maybe a 2004/2005 release. Furthermore, based of more guesswork, I would say the setting of the movie takes place in the Northeast somewhere, from what I remember probably like Boston or NY. The story is told from the boys perspective, he's probably about 11 to 13 years-old, he has blond hair and is most of the time wearing a private school uniform with a little suit coat with a circular school emblem on it. I wouldn't say he has long hair but it is definitely combed backwards, not slicked back but just wavyish kind of like Zach Morris from Saved by the Bell, if his hair would have been a few inches longer. The story line goes something like this; The kid is trying to cope with the death of his Grandfather, and a lot of the time he is narrating the story. As the story progresses the film highlights his behavior and how he is coping with his Grandfathers death and just death in general. He is also questioning and wondering if there is a God and where do you go when you die. I think in one particular scene his is setting in a chair that his Grandfather used to set in and smoke a pipe. In the scene he his pretty much mimicking what his Grandfather did, rocking in the chair with the pipe in his mouth, but not smoking. The whole feel for the movie isn't old or vintage it's definitely anywhere from 2000 to 2013. In the movie his family seems well off, having parents that are both educated with prestigious jobs. I want to say the grandfather was played by like a Michael Douglas type guy, like he was in the 90's movie "Greedy"... However he is not the guy that plays the grandfather , another actor the Grandfather reminded me of was maybe Frank Finlay, the guy who plays the father in the movie "The Pianist", when he was old with snow white hair. As far as setting and story goes, that's about all I can remember. One other big thing, I think might help you movie buffs figure it out is this.... I think the closing scene has the boy walking out of his class at his catholic private school and having some sort of supernatural experience confirming that his Grandfather is in a better place and ok. It's not dark or creepy at all, it's more of a feel good moment. I think the sun is shinning inside beaming into the hallway and he hears like a voice or something. I hope you can help me figure this out, it's been bugging me for years.
P.s I want to say the movie starts with an "S" again this is totally guess work :D
