Alex Ovechkin is 29, and his hair is flecked with gray nowadays. Putting his name in the company of such past hockey superstars as Wayne Gretzky, Mike Bossy and Mario Lemieux, Ovechkin is now one of only six players with at least a half-dozen 50-goal seasons. The Russian wing reached that milestone for the sixth time Tuesday night by scoring in the first period of the Washington Capitals' 4-2 ...

Resolved Question: Can you take mario
qoute from his his statement on the mele with the isles
""The NHL had a chance to send a clear and strong message that those kinds of actions are unacceptable and embarrassing to the sport. It failed," he said. "We, as a league, must do a better job of protecting the integrity of the game and the safety of our players. We must make it clear that those kinds of actions will not be tolerated and will be met with meaningful disciplinary action."
pretty ironic coming from a guy who employs matt cooke no tom, maybe you should read. he says their (the islanders players) actions were embarrassing and unacceptable. apparently he doesnt mind paying cooke to go out with the intent to injure but when someone does it to his team all of a sudden the league is failing and he questions why he's apart of it. cindy crosby punching that thrashers player in the groin while his teammate held him, now that was embarrassing. didnt hear old mario crying about crysby geting no susspension on that one. facilitator you arent too smart are you. who pays matt cooke? you think bylsma or shero are the ones paying out of pocket? no the name signing his checks, MARIO LEMIEUX

Resolved Question: Your thoughts on Mario
I guess they should've just fined the Islanders 1mil+, and 13 combined games wasn't enough for the two Islanders. Oh and Goddard shouldn't have been suspended 10 games since the Lemieux doesn't approve of the NHL rule book.
Disclaimer - Nothing he says will have any validity to me as long as Matt Cooke is on that team. What baffled me was that the Islanders got fined $100,000....like for what? I think Gilles got the right amount of time, what he did was horrible. I just don't get where Mario sees the need to complain considering his team only got one suspension for a guy who doesn't mean anything.

Resolved Question: Mario Lemieux VS. Wayne
I have read a previous question like this, posted 4 years ago, and was thinking it deserved a redo. In my opinion it's clear the 66 out shines 99. Most people see Gretsky's stats, which are amazing, and ultimately assume him the better player. Lemieux on the other hand, who had back problems but more notably health problems with complications from cancer, did a lot more in less time with less talent surrounding him. It's hard to compare the two players, the aspect of their games are at complete odds. Gretsky's first instinct was to shoot, Lemieux to pass. That however does not make one better than the other. Both of these men are probably more equals than any fan would like to admit. Again, both men were great and are great and will always be argued over. It's the curse of such great legacies. I will admit my bias as a Penguins fan, but truly I wouldn't and couldn't let that weigh in on any sports decision. I fancy myself a sports fan in general more than a pittsburgh sports fan, some might disagree. Neither one is "hands down" better than the other, but one must be better. There are no ties in hockey. I'd like to hear everyone else's opinion and so, have at it sports fans.
