Playful Pairing: Jason Vieaux and Julien
San Francisco Classical VoicePlayful Pairing: Jason Vieaux and Julien Labro Have a Ball in Their Duo RecitalSan Francisco Classical VoiceFor Pat Metheny's Antonia, Labro pulled out a mouth-blown accordina, sort of a 3-row button melodica. Standing and swaying for the piece, he blazed through a series of distinctly un-Metheny improv runs before Vieaux took his turn with an emotionally ...

Joe Bonamassa Slays Santa Barbara Bowl
These included a 1977 show by Dave Mason, 1978 photos of Santana and Joni Mitchell, with Pat Metheny and Jaco Pastorius, and all the way up to an 80’s show by The Clash. We couldn’t find the images in what has become a cavernous back stage area.

The John Patitucci Electric Guitar Quartet:
Like some of Pat Metheny’s music, it has a sneaky way of being both incredibly pleasant and then, actually, unique and marvelous too. Amidst a season of Big Jazz Statements from the likes of Kamasi Washington, Brooklyn is no Epic but something just as ...

Possum Jenkins Brings Rootsy Rock to Blowing
I love Led Zeppelin, but I also love Pat Metheny. I love Doc Watson. I got turned on to Derek Trucks when he was 17 and I was 16. His approach definitely figured into how I approach the guitar. I don’t really play slide guitar, but Trucks’ rhythm ...

Metheny's new band anything but conventional
The word conventional simply doesn't exist in Pat Metheny's musical lexicon. The guitarist has never been complacent, choosing to follow an unpredictable path.

Resolved Question: What are some great songs
I'm a fan of metal but i like some jazz and fusion: Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, Django Reinhardt, Coltrane, Holdsworth, Stanley Jordanetc.. I saw Allmusic describe Pat Metheny as a very talented guitarist but when I bought some "greatest hits" album it was boring and like elevator music to me.(Not that it IS elevator music) What am i missing out on??

Resolved Question: John Mclaughlin or Pat
Who do you think plays more technical? Who's more technically demanding?

Resolved Question: Does anyone think that
For some reason I am convinced and hooked on the idea that he plays the most difficult musical passages? Please give reasons to why or why not he is the most technical, or who might be better? Please no rock/pop/blues guitarists, their virtuosity is very limited and cannot even compare to jazz/classical guitarists. Sorry, but the honest truth is that Jazz/Classical music uses more chords and is harder to play than rock/pop/blues. I checked out some of the bands that play "jazz metal", but they seem to be more on the metal side. Still dosn't seem as complex as Pat Metheny; sounds like they just play the same note fast over and over again. It's way too into the rock spectrum to be more technical than jazz. I personally think jazz fusion to be the more complex.
