Resolved Question: What are the essential
Arnold Schoenberg Anton Webern Igor Stravinsky Pierre Boulez Gustav Mahler Gustav Holst Richard Wagner Richard Strauss Claude Debussy Sorry if that was too much , I've been exploring way out of the comfort zone with less familiar pieces of these composers and others that I haven't even listened to much of their essential pieces of music .

  Resolved Question: What avant-garde
I've been listening to Edgard Varese and I also like Pierre Boulez and Alban Berg and Chalfes Ives and I'm looking to hear some more obscure artists, either from the past or contemporary, along those lines. Any suggestions?

  Resolved Question: How many conductors
I was just watching/listening to the following You Tube video of Thielemann conducting the Munich Philharmonic in Wagner's "Tannhauser" Overture (the Dresden version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTM7E4-DN0o Why this question came to mind as a result, I haven't the foggiest idea; anyways....... What conductors can you name who regularly, are known to: (1) conduct using a baton? (2) conduct without a baton? (3) conduct with/using a score to refer to? (4) conduct without a score? LIVING OR DECEASED Many Thanks, Alberich @@@ "petr b": many thanks for your attention to my last two questions; neither will probably receive any more - really 'irks' me. The info. about Boulez is of particular interest to me - anyone that can conduct the entire Ring without a score, well.......my hats off to him. Two that came to mind for me were A. Toscanini (naturally, I'm a great fan of his), who used a baton, but never a score; and the sometimes controversial L. Stokowski for his orchestral arrangements of compositions from other mediums - a score, but no baton. And lastly, guess you are more than probably aware of V Gergiev, with his 'toothpick' baton?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHk1RmPzA5E HA !!!
