Resolved Question: Why is Italy so much more
Most "western" countries (e.g. France, Germany etc.) have been formed in the same way as Spain - many different kingdoms and republics have merged and united to become a single nation state.
But due to geographical and cultural similarity ("Mediterranean" style of life), I've chosen Italy to compare. They too have formed in the same way as Spain, yet they are somehow a lot more united.
From what I've heard from friends who live in Italy, all (or most) Italians are proud to say they are Italian (even Sicilians who generally tend to specify they are from Sicily, also identify as Italians). They speak the same language and I've noticed in football especially, when the Italian anthem is played, the players are extremely passionate.
Yet a lot of people in Catalonia, the Basque Country and Galicia especially refuse to identify as Spanish. Why is that?
They say it's cultural differences, but there is not one single country in the world which doesn't have many different cultures within its different regions and communities. I am Bulgarian, a small country in the Balkans. Even there, different regions have region specific customs and culture. So this argument seems ridiculous. How is Catalonia's history different to that of Sicily or Genoa for example, with both of the latter being much better integrated into Italy?
Lately, a lot of Spaniards are showing patriotism, but my question is, why is there so much support for independence in different regions in the first place?

Resolved Question: Where should I travel for
Hi, I've completely worn myself out taking advanced classes in high school, I'm a senior, although I was given the option of graduating at the end of the school year last year. I've decided to take a semester off for a number of reasons. However I cannot decide if I want to go to Nicaragua to volunteer my time to help restructure an area destroyed by poverty or to go to Darf Tirolo in Italy, the village my family comes from in order to learn about my family's history and culture. I believe both of these trips would help me learn more about myself but in two very different ways and I'm not sure which I should chose. What do you guys think? * Dorf Tirolo ** Dorf Tirol. I'm sorry I'm very tired and my spelling isn't too great at the moment.
