Resolved Question: Study abroad in Morocco
Hi. I am thinking of studying abroad in Morocco or Egypt (Cairo) in the near future. I have always loved Middle Eastern/ North African culture and cannot wait to travel there! However, my mom has a concern. I am a redhead (think Jessica Chastain) and she is worried that I'm going to stand out so much that this will cause problems for me. I'm learning Arabic, but I don't think this will really help me in this case. Is it disrespectful to wear a scarf around your head (not hijab)if you are not Muslim? I figured it was fine, but have read otherwise too. Can I expect a lot of harassment or unwanted attention? What can I do to prevent it? I'm aware about sunglasses, wearing modest clothes, and minding my own business. I also will be extremely safe and cautious when choosing transportation and what water I drink, ect. I also refuse to dye my hair. Any thoughts, help, or insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
